Traditionally a spice (mountain pepper) used by Taiwanese aborigines and as a windbreaker and medicinal plant in Chinese villages, the litsea cubeba also known as "May Chang", belongs to the same family of plants as lavender, rosewood, and cinnamon. The name 'cubeb' is given to the plant due to its pepper-shaped fruit which is primarily used as a spice in food. It is native from southeast Asia, especially China and Taiwan. Litsea cubeba oil
